MacBook Air(Retina):

Apple’s Macbook Air has always been a go to laptop for students and professionals who want their devices to be light but provide a good amount of performance and Macbook Air delivers it.

Nothing much has been changed if you look at it in a design point of view. As you open it the first thing you see is its keyboard.

Now the keyboard has been replaced by the previous generation butterfly keyboard to the new “Magic Keyboard“, and for some hardcore mac users its a major change as the butterfly keyboard was negatively affecting the overall feel of the laptop. Now every 2020 models have their Magic keyboard in them.

Macbook Air starts with 10th generation intel i3, and leads to i5 and i7. It can get difficult choosing among the three processors but …

If you are buying this for someone who will do :

  1. Basic Surfing + email + typing work : i3 would be the best one for you.
  2. Photo editing + graphic work + multitasking : Go with i5.
  3. For jobs which requires more processing power go with i7.

Storage : You get a minimum 256GB storage now which is great considering the previous models which offered only 128GB of storage but I would say the sweet spot would be 512GB or the 1TB.

RAM : You get minimum 8GB RAM, however you can max it out to 16GB. I would suggest you to go for the 16GB version and i wish apple made the 16GB variant as their minimum RAM because it would be more beneficial in the future.

Speakers on Macbook Air(2020)

Speakers : Really Good speakers. When compared with previous models the audio quality is just amazing in the 2020 version.

Is it better than Apple pro 16 inch(2020) ?

Hell no, The audio quality in 16 inch pro is just phenomenal. Its like have a mini theater with you.

Battery Life : Depends on your usage, Apple says the battery would last a whole day. If you cut brightness to 50% and just do surfing, check emails etc. you will get through the day. But, if you do some photo editing, increase brightness battery performance will get reduced.

However this is an issue with every laptop out there. It can be minimized as I said using clever management techniques.

Ports on Macbook Air(2020)

Ports : In terms of ports you get 2 USB thunderbolt C ports, both on the left side. I wish it was more organised one on the left one on the right it would have been much more manageable. However it is not that big of a deal.

Display : The retina display is just Great, Vibrant, Bright, Accurate.

The best thing I like about this laptop is how much Apple has tried to make this as a better version of the previous ones. Compared to 2019 version, photo editing, graphic designing is much much better, convenient etc. Apple kinda made a semi-pro laptop.

Don’t try to fit a square peg in a round hole. Don’t try to do too much with it. You will face some heating issues if you over stress the laptop.

Macbook Pro(13-inch)

There are actually two models of the Macbook pro 13-inch one is the base model with 2 thunderbolt ports and Intel 8th gen processor and the other one is a step up version which has 4 thunderbolt ports and Intel 10th gen processor.

The step-up version of the Macbook Pro 13 inch also has a faster RAM.

The RAM is upgradable to 16GB and the storage can reach upto 4TB.

Speakers : The speakers are very good, Apple has given stereo speakers to the 2020 devices which provides clean audio which is better than 90% laptops out there.

The 2020 version is very similar to the previous models but the only difference is that the 2020 model is a bit thicker and also a little heavier. The reason for this thickness is its new Magic Keyboard.

The Best thing is that it now has a very good graphic card – Intel IRIS plus which can prove to be a very big deal considering your work.

There are further differences between the base model and the step up one like the step up version has vents for better thermal performance, the RAM is faster in step-up version, the graphic capabilities are better etc.

What to choose? Macbook Air OR Macbook Pro(13-inch)?

  • If you want something with light weight and light power according to your usage – Go for Macbook Air(2020).
  • If you want some Power but you dont have much graphic related job – Go for Macbook Pro 13 – inch(Base model).
  • If you want good power, good graphics, much faster RAM – Go for Macbook Pro 13 – inch(Step-up version).

Macbook Pro (16 inch)

Finally the Macbook Pro 16 inch which is literally the best laptop apple produces that’s obvious considering its price range it has to give some solid performance which it definitely does.

Compared to the previous versions of Pro, obviously the size has been changed from 15 inch to 16 inch.

The keyboard has been changed from the butterfly keyboard to the new scissor keyboard which is what we all wanted. Apple has changed its keyboard after 5 long years and it was worth the wait. The new keyboard feels amazing, the key-travel, the backlight does not bleed a lot, it feels firm and is not very springy and it also has a real escape key.

Apple says Pro is capable to give a battery life of 8-9 hours which actually depends on how one uses it. If one forces the device to do an extensive amount of task at a single shot it, battery life will get reduced. However even when used moderately the laptop will last for at least 7 hours.

Thermal performance, Now if you look at the previous models they had heating issues which then affected the overall performance of the device by slowing it down. Apple did release some software to counter this issue and it did work but overall it was a failed product.

Now however, In the new version of Macbook Pro they have introduced better fans, increased the size of the heat sink and also added a little bit of thickness which helps in better airflow and it works.
